On October 28th, 1892, Charles-Émile Reynaud delivered a first public performance of projected moving images with his Théâtre Optical at the Grevin Museum in Paris. And to commemorate this historic event, ASIFA proclaimed each October 28 as the International Animation Day in 2002. Since then, it has become an international observance to celebrate the animation art and invigorate the animators worldwide.
Since its first celebration event in 2002 hosted by ASIFA, this special day has been celebrated for 22 years consecutively in every part of the world. Each year, a prestigious animator is invited to design a poster for IAD, and in 2023, distinguished Swiss animation film director Georges Schwizgebel was invited for this task.
ASIFA-CHINA, the China Chapter of ASIFA, will also organize celebration events including screenings, seminars, salons, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, etc. on that day. By these activities, it is sincerely hoped that all audiences and professionals could share the joy brought by animation, and that this great invention, which contributes significantly to the humankind, will become deeply roots in their lives and cultures
